Terry Sauriol
Terry Montague Sauriol paints beyond the subject. She is incredibly attentive to her subjects' lighting and the shadows cast. “I like to take seemingly everyday objects or settings and make them as interesting as I see them by painting the colors, the lighting, and the shadows rather than merely the subject.” She also enjoys painting horses and seeing them as large objects with interesting forms and shapes.
A graduate of Washington State University, Sauriol is classically trained as a painter and an educator herself. She taught art to high school students for several years before turning her energies to her studio work. As a result of her influence and teaching, many of her students have pursued careers in the visual arts.
During the summer of 1998, Sauriol left Portland, Oregon, to move east of the Cascade Mountains. Sauriol’s expansive new environment has influenced her awareness of the light in her area and embraces the rich colors of her region.
Terry Montague Sauriol has shown in galleries throughout the Northwest, including:
Broderick Gallery, Baker City, Oregon
Gallery OSCAR in Ketchum (Sun Valley), Idaho
Brown’s Gallery in Boise, Idaho
First Avenue Contemporary Gallery in Ketchum (Sun Valley), Idaho
Her work is found in several private collections, both regionally and abroad.
