Herbert Berman

Born in New York City in 1927, Herbert Berman has been an active painter since 1963. He studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School from 1963 to 1973 and attended the Art Student League from 1974 to 1996. Instructors at the League were David Leffel, Daniel Greene, and Gregg Kreutz. He also attended the National Academy School in 1993, studying with Jacob Collins and Sam Adaque. All are nationally recognized, realistic painters.

Although he studied abstract painting initially, Herbert was drawn to realism after visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. There he developed a deep appreciation for the works of the old masters and started to paint realistically. However, regardless of current trends, he believes traditional, academic paintings will always have a place in the art world.

Herbert has received numerous awards for his art which has been shown in many group and one-person exhibitions throughout New York, Oregon, and Florida.

Herbert currently resides and paints in Corvallis, Oregon.
